Relieving certain types of chronic pain such as neck or back pain can be made easier with TENS treatments along with practicing good posture. Relief using some imagery along with doing a few simple exercises may change things up for you. The Harvard Medical School has recommendations to help fix and maybe even improve your posture thereby relieving some pain.

Imagine a straight line from the floor to the ceiling that passes through your body, ensuring your shoulders, hips, knees and ankles are even and align vertically. Then pull your chest and rib cage upward, holding your hips level and keeping your lower back from swaying. Then think of stretching your head toward the ceiling, while elongating the space between your ribs and hips. Then release.

Continue with a shoulder blade squeeze. Slowly draw your shoulders back, squeezing your shoulder blades together. Then release. Continue with a chest stretch. Grasp your elbow and gently pull it across your chest so you feel a stretch in the upper arm and shoulder then repeat with the other arm. Then release and smile that you really did it. Of course, you can check with your doctor first. If done at regular intervals during the day, correct posture can really make a difference in how you feel and may even help to reduce your level of pain.

One of the steps to feeling better is to become educated regarding your condition. Here are some books you may want to read: Manual of Pain Management by Warfield and Fausett (2002) ; Pain Medicine and Management: Just the Facts by Wallace, Staats, and Wallace (2004). You can plan a trip to your local library, bookstore or online sites to check out other resources. Also you can search on Google and other internet platforms for ‘pain management books free download’.

You just may find information to help you understand the nature of the pain cycle or to help you clearly discuss your pain with your doctor. Here are some sites we recommend as you get started. We hope this knowledge empowers your situation and improves your outlook while treating pain with your prescribed MSP-TENS.

Prescription drug abuse is killing Ohioans. The abuse of prescription pain medications and heroin - both classified as opiates - is epidemic in Ohio. Through a new service of the Ohio Attorney General's office, anyone can confidentially report people they suspect are inappropriately prescribing or distributing prescription drugs.

KNOW THE FACTS:

  • Drug overdoses kill an average of four Ohioans every day.
  • Since 2007, unintended drug overdoses have exceeded car crashes as the leading cause of accidental death in Ohio.
  • Ohio's death rate from overdoses has jumped 372 percent since 1999, from 327 deaths that year to 1,544 in 2010, an increase largely driven by prescription drug abuse.
  • Heroin is flooding Ohio because of heightened demand. People who become addicted to prescription pain medication often turn to heroin since it generally costs less and can be easier to obtain.
  • TENS treatments successfully relieve pain and are a great alternative to drugs without side effects.

DRUG STORAGE AND DISPOSAL TIPS:

  • Inventory all medications in your home, noting the number of pills and refills remaining.
  • Keep all medicines - including over-the-counter- out of the hands of your young loved ones.

Did You Know ? Humans are essentially electrical beings with electrical charge enough to light up a city for 24 hours? Sounds amazing! The electro-chemical nature of water, minerals and electrons within us gives us our positive charge. The stimulation TENS treatments you are using to decrease your pain is essentially using your own natural systems. The human body is amazing. We are amazing, aren’t we?

The relatively new idea of a clothing garment that conducts electricity into the body with the use of the portable TENS device controls chronic pain. Anti-bacterial silver yarns provide stimulation over the entire garment’s cloth surface. Stimulation Gloves, socks, and sleeves are extremely effective. TENS treatments using these garments are made easier by the soft fabric conforming to the shape of the hands, feet, and knee/elbow region. As an example, some Pro Basketball players routinely use the stim gloves after games for faster pain-free recovery of their hands.

Highly form-fitting conductive StimVest garments also use silver yarn cloth electrodes placed on the interior side of the vest that will touch the skin at the most difficult to reach treatment sites. This full back vest garment, as with all stimulation garments, are by prescription only and are used with a TENS unit system by prescription only.
